Crown Promenade Hotel
8 Whiteman St., Southbank, Melbourne 3006, Australia

Excellent location
Good sleeping value

Dated TV
Expensive internet
Average service

I got the chance to stay at this hotel during my All-Around-Australia tour with my partner. This hotel was our 2nd stop in Australia and we loved that it was located near the Yarra river and within walking distance to the Queen Bridge that links Southbank to the central business district. The location provided a great view of the city from our room which was on the 16th floor. The hotel’s atmosphere was quite laid-back despite the fact that the hotel is actually part of the busy Crown complex, which brought in an air of business. The complex serves as the link of the Promenade to the Crown Towers, cinemas, food courts, shops and the Crown casino as well. Gourmet restaurants are also located along the river for one’s dining pleasure while the City Circle Tram provided free transportation and reliable guidance in touring the area. But that’s just about it that we love about this hotel. It didn’t do quite well in terms of the other hotel basics.

The room was very comfortable and of average size. The bed was cozy with a lot of pillows. The room had modern décor and furniture but it also had an old CRT TV which was quite disappointing. For a Crown hotel, this clearly did not pass the standard. The bathroom was spacious but did not have a bath tub nor bath robes for the guests. The room was also equipped with high-speed internet connection but it was not for free. It was very expensive at A$25 per day. The room rates were also not inclusive of breakfast but for A$28, the breakfast buffet was kind of okay. In terms of amenities, Promenade had a small gym with a complete range of equipment as well as a pool and sauna to relax you after a tiring day.

The hotel staff were a mix of those who were polite and genuinely attentive and those who were aloof and uninterested. They were quick to check us in and to check us out but there was nothing to rave about in the kind of customer service that they provided. In our opinion, Crown Promenade needs a lot of improvement.
